Attention Sophomore Dental Students – Scholarship Application

Isaac Knapp Dental Education Foundation Scholarship

The Award
Two renewable scholarships of $2,000 each are awarded annually, as follows:

*Each spring, a sophomore dental student is selected for the award for study during the junior year.  As long as the student is making “satisfactory progress toward graduation,” the scholarship is renewed for the senior year.  Thus, one junior and one senior student receive the award each year.  Should any recipient not be making satisfactory progress at the end of his/her junior year, the Scholarship Committee may choose an alternated student to receive the scholarship for the senior year of study.

Qualifications for the Award
Affiliation with one of the ten counties within the Isaac Knapp District Dental Society:  Adams, Allen, DeKalb, Huntington, Jay, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, Wells and Whitley.  Affiliation may be interpreted in a number of ways, and applicants are asked to elaborate on their ties to NE Indiana and Isaac Knapp.
*GPA or scholarly ranking of sophomore when applying
*A degree of need

Initial Screening of Applicants
It is requested that each dental school:
*Announce the scholarship to dental students.
*Distribute the application to possible recipients.  Click here to access application.

Selection of Recipient
A Scholarship Committee, appointed by the Foundation president, chooses the annual recipient.  Relatives of the Scholarship Committee members are not eligible.

Award Presentation and Distribution of Scholarship
The first IKDEF Scholarship was presented by American Dental Association President, Eugene J. Truono, DDS, at the April 10, 1991 centennial meeting of the Isaac Knapp District Dental Society.  In subsequent years:
*The annual recipient is announced at the society’s April meeting,
*A certificate of recognition is awarded,
*The student’s dental school is notified,
*The $2,000 award is paid directly to the dental school and credited to the student’s account.
